whatimpact Strengthening Social Value Delivery Across Wales

At whatimpact – National Social Value Marketplace®, we’re proud to support the Welsh voluntary and community sector through meaningful collaboration, transparent social value measurement, and effective partnerships.

A Truly National Platform for Wales

The whatimpact National Social Value Marketplace® is built to serve every region of the UK — and in Wales, it’s already having significant impact.

Over £1.5 million in Shared Prosperity Funding (SPF) has been distributed through the platform.
We are working closely with local CVSssocial enterprise support bodies, and community networks.
We are collaborating with Welsh councils to help suppliers evidence and maximise social value locally.

Through these efforts, whatimpact is ensuring that the benefits of social value reach grassroots VCSEs and communities — not just as one-off donations, but through long-term, strategic partnerships that drive systemic change.

whatimpact – Social Value think tank

This December, our CEO Tiia Sammallahti will speak at two major events in Wales, each reflecting our deep commitment to helping councils, suppliers, and VCSEs work together to create real, community-level impact.

Event 1: Help to Grow: Management Alumni Event

Cardiff Business School – 3rd December 2025

In collaboration with Professor Jane Lynch, Tiia will deliver a session on Embedding Social Impact, introducing a practical five-to-six-piece framework designed to help SMEs integrate social value strategically into their business models.

The workshop will explore how social impact can:

  • Strengthen organisational purpose and brand value
  • Enhance relationships with customers and public sector buyers
  • Support long-term sustainability and transparency
  • Prevent “social washing” through genuine, measurable outcomes

This session forms part of a wider programme at Cardiff Business School to empower leaders with the tools to balance commercial growth with positive social and environmental outcomes.

Event 2: CIPS Wales Event – Embedding Social Value in Procurement and the Supply Chain

📍 Village Hotel, Cardiff – 12th December 2025

Confirmed panellists lead by Jane Lynch:

  • Christian Sait – Director, ANTZ UK; social value strategist who wrote and delivers the UK’s only Ofqual-accredited Level 2 & 3 Social Value training programme
  • Stefan Iles – Senior Supply Chain Manager, Transport for Wales
  • Tiia Sammallahti – CEO, whatimpact – National Social Value Marketplace®
  • Paul Griffiths – Head of Commercial: Capability and Delivery, Welsh Government Commercial & Procurement Directorate
  • Jemma Bridgeman – Research Associate, WISERD; expert in social value and fair work in construction

Together, they will explore how social value can be practically embedded in public procurement frameworks and supply chains — turning legislation and policy into real, measurable community outcomes.

The discussion will also highlight how technology, transparency, and collaboration with the VCSE sector can help buyers and suppliers demonstrate the true societal benefits of their contracts in line with the Well-being of Future Generations Act.  THIS EVENT IS FREE FOR ALL!

Looking Ahead: The whatimpact VCSE Summit 2026

In March 2026, whatimpact will host the VCSE Summit — a free, nationwide online event for all Welsh charities, community groups, and social enterprises.
The Summit will focus on elevating the role of VCSEs in public sector procurement and social value delivery, offering practical insights, connections, and resources to strengthen their ability to collaborate with public bodies and suppliers.

We invite councils, procurement teams, economic development leads, and community departments to work with us to increase grassroots social value impact and align efforts with Wales’s vision for sustainable, community-driven growth.
