Delivering Social Value: Expectations for Suppliers
As a supplier to Peterborough City Council, your role extends beyond contract delivery — you are a key partner in helping us generate meaningful and measurable social value for our local communities.
We expect all suppliers to:
Integrate social value into their delivery plans from the outset
Work in partnership with local VCSEs (Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprises) to co-create initiatives that reflect the needs of our residents
Align social value activities with our framework and local priorities
Track, verify, and report on outcomes in a structured, transparent way
Provide evidence of inputs, outputs, outcomes, and impact, including qualitative case studies where appropriate
Social value should not be a generic add-on — it must be embedded in the way services are delivered, demonstrating real and lasting benefit to local people and places.
Delivering Social Value for Peterborough with whatimpact
To ensure consistency, transparency, and meaningful local engagement, Peterborough City Council has adopted whatimpact.com – National Social Value Marketplace™ as the official platform for:
Finding and partnering with local VCSEs based on project needs and local priorities
Tracking all social value matches between suppliers and VCSEs
Capturing and verifying impact data, including inputs, outputs, outcomes, and case studies
All suppliers are expected to register on whatimpact.com, complete their social value profile, and use the platform to facilitate and report on all VCSE-related activity throughout the life of their contract.
This enables the council to gain a full, verified view of how suppliers are contributing to local social outcomes and ensures equal opportunity for all VCSEs to engage in delivery.
